Your First Blogspot

Start with blogspot. I started with a free blogspot because I found it more convenient. It depends on your preference, of course. You may want to start with a paid blog and keep it forever more. I love free blogs, and I guess I'd keep all my blogspots free. Anway, your blogspot or blogger can be your mini website or blog. Start with a personal diary or a hobby like photography--upload the pics and put captions. Just for fun and experimenting. For practice. Then, if you want, go on with it and eventually turn it into a small business. That was how I started and continued.

Blogspot has features for both web and blog applications. Have you tried it? If not, go to blogspot (see the "sign-up" option on the upper right-hand corner of this page) and explore possibilities with its rich features. I enjoy blogspot so much and appreciate its very useful and easy-to-use features and tools. Others are also good (I've tried several others) but I strongly recommend blogspot.

Here’s how you do it. Once you're on the "Create a Google Account" page you'd see this image:

Just fill out the form on the right and follow the simple instructions. Name the blog, check if the URL is available, choose a template, then blog away. As easy as A, B, C.

How To Name Your Blog

To name your blog, think of a simple but catchy term that represents well your subject matter or business or hobby. For instance, when I was deciding what name my blog about web and blog tips would have, I thought about what catchy term would make online surfers stop a while and wonder. A catchy one but with meaning and yet bewildering. Enigmatic. So eventually I came up with “Slog Bhop.” These are real words. Slog means to go on a particular direction even if it’s difficult to do so. Bhop means to jump with both legs, something similar to the gait of rabbits. It’s also sometimes done by crazy dogs.

What's Slog Bhop?

So, Slog Bhop is something you jump into in an entertaining or amusing manner when facing difficulties. Second, it's also the inverted form of Blog Shop—I interchanged the first letters of the words. Just to catch attention. Sometimes you want to catch attention with your blog title when too many titles of the same topic are on search engines. Just make sure they still make sense.

Then make that name among your priority keywords. Keywords or phrases are words an online user or researcher is likely to type on search engines (like Google or Yahoo) when searching or surfing the net. You use that in your articles and post titles, and other things on your web or blog, but don't over use it. More on this in another article.

Anyway, make the blog name or title as simple and catchy as possible. If possible, put the name in your URL as well, if it's not too long. Like what I did with Slog Bhop; the URL is the title itself: www.slogbhop.blogspot.com. With another blog about my choice tips on life, I just used choyscut, which means Choy's best recomendations on life, or choice cut. Another tip to consider is to make it easily remembered.

So, do the same with your blog name and URL. Think up something that would embody the idea, niche, term or theme you think is appropriate for your blog name and URL. KISS it, too--Keep It Short and Simple.

What's a URL?

A URL is the website or blog address. Anyone in the world can easily locate your web or blog by using your URL. He simply types it on the search box or window or on his browser, press "enter," and he's on your site in no time.

Specifically, a URL begins with https://www. Or, it can simply be www. (your blog name). In the case of Slog Bhop, it's "www.slogbhop.blogspot.com" Thus, the complete URL of my blog is https://www.slogbhop.blogspot.com. You'll notice that the URL is underlined and brightens up once it is typed on the screen.

Once you're okay with the name, URL, and template, you're ready to compose your first blog article on blogspot. The browser will take you to blank boxes with title and body boxes. Type your article there. Make sure it's your own composition. Never copy-paste from anywhere and then put on your blog. That will weaken your blog's ranking in the search engines, besides being illegal. Always make your own unique article. You want to be your unique you, right? It's why you want a personal blog.
