Lots of people mistake blogging for vlogging. When I say I blog, they think I vlog. Vlogging is making and posting videos. Blogging is writing blog articles for socmed posting which may include videos and images. But it's basically writing. Although I'm very interested about making videos for reels, My Story and Tiktok, I'm all-out for blog writing. I love writing and believe that people, especially kids and teens, need to read more than watch videos. Writing is kind-of a crusade to me, a mission.
To keep up with blogging trends (yes, you need to know and keep up) you need a good cam, a latest model, but affordable. It doesn't need to be high end. Just get one that gives you clear, a bit high resolution, crisp pictures. In short, as long as you get clear pics and videos. In my case, I don't really care searching about models and features. I just ask my sons and nieces about what I need in a cheap smartphone and they tell me what to buy.
Pictures give your articles a graphic intro to aid readers more about your topic. Or sometimes, pictures can arouse curiosity if they're more of a puzzle than a vivid and obvious illustration. This tickles the imagination and creates suspense. The more puzzling the image the more readers would want to know why that picture is used--which is often my preference. I seldom use obvious pictures. I'm fond of hiding clues, some kind of a treasure hunt, but which also reveal a sly hint about the article. 😄
Use Your Own Pictures or Use Free Photos?
I often use images from free photo sites like Unsplash, Pexel or Pixabay. I just make sure I give credit. But if I have the time, I go out and take pictures of anything interesting that may be useful to my blogs. It's a lot better to use your own pictures than borrow. This way, you promote both your blog article and pictures. Much better if you also shoot videos and include them in your posts. Readers are aided and given more enjoyment with a nice, easily understandable blog article with good pictures and interesting videos. Our purpose in blogging is to help. Remember that.
So get your cams ready. Pictures and videos help our campaign to bring reading back to people, especially the youth. But it has to be 60 to 70 percent words and the rest percentage pics and videos. Well, videos are often optional. Don't always include videos because they might defeat the purpose. We want folks to read. It's like a house. Houses have windows but you do not put windows on everything. Sometimes, you need a good view outside. But sometimes, too, you don't want people outside peeking in through so many windows. Besides, so many windows provide so many access for intruders. 😁
